TI TUESDAY DECEMBER 28 1993 LOS ANGELES TIMES Obituary Molester Found Dead in Orange County Cell Jpff Morrow Actor Best Known for Science-Fiction Roles From Times Staff Writers SANTA ANA-A Fountain Valley man was found hanged Satur day in his cell at the Orange County Jail eight days after being sentenced to 84 years in prison for sexually abusing his three one of whom committed sui -cide 14 months ago Correctional officers found Kyung Mook (Edward) Cho 54 hanging from a sheet tied to an air vent in his one-inmate cell about 5 am according to Lt Tom Garner Cho was sentenced on Dec 17 and fined $20000 At the time of his death Cho was awaiting transfer to state prison He was convicted in May of 25 counts of rape molestation and assault on his three daughters over the course of a decade The victims included 23-year-old Young Sun Cho who killed herself in 1992 raucous brawling drunken centurion in what 20th Century Pox hoped would prove an epic screen alternative to television Fox trumpeted the picture filmed in Cinemascope across the country encouraging theater owners to install the larger screens required for the production Audiences responded by the hundreds of thousands It made a star of Richard Burton and a sought-after character actor of Morrow But to escape the villain stereotype he inherited with he made a series of lesser pictures as a leading man or featured play- er He co-starred with Rock Hudson in in 1955 and with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis in in 1956 In 1960 he was paired with Stuart Whitman in Story of Morrow born Irving Morrow in New York City was an experienced Broadway actor when called to Hollywood He made his debut in 1936 opposite Katharine Cornell Maurice Evans and Ralph Richardson as Tybalt in and He also appeared with Miss Cornell in and toured with Katharine Hepburn in His other New York credits included and Morrow also continued to act in plays on the West Coast including the 1956 Los Angeles production of Debates" But among film buffs he is perhaps best known for his performances in several science-fiction films that have achieved cult status He played the alien in Island in 1955 and starred in the 1956 cult classic Creature Walks Among the third in the "Creature From the Black trilogy In that film Morrow played a scientist who mutates the swamp lungs so that it can exist on land The creature returns the favor by lusting
