Helen Wood, becaup she has been assigned to on of the three top feminine part in "Give a Girl a Break with Marge and Gower Champion, Debbie Reynolds, et aL Mis Wood haa a very special backlog of stag and television experience in New York, which led to her being signed by 20th, and also being borrowed by MGM.

Principally she was featured in "Pal Joey" on Broadway during the past season as Kid. She was observed by Nate Inches of 20th's studio publicity department in the video medium, and thus drawn to the company's attention. Miss Wood is fortunate, because Jack Cummings, producer of Give a Girl a Break," seems to have the Midas touch in insuring success for feminine newcomers, Ethel Williams, Miss fhampion and Miss Reynolds having been on the list of players he promoted. Miss Wood, 18 years old, will report to Director Stanley Donen next week. She will be one of the three girls fighting for a certain role on Broadway, losing out happily enough, herself because of motherhood.

Debbie Reynolds is the victorious one. Marge Champion foregoing the "break" because of being in love with Gower. Miss Wood will do a specialty number and dance through the feature. Ann Miller bad been mentioned for this film. JRAX PETERS, RITTER 'BLAZR OF GLORY STARS i Thelma Ritter, always dependable for comedy or humanness, will join Richard Widmark and Jean Peters in "Blaze of Glorv." SCOTT "Fearless- Fagan," based on the real-life- story of the Army private who took his pet lion to camp. Is an amusing, sometimes hilarious, piece of movie entertainment. It is showing, along with another feature titled "You for Me," at Locw'i State and Egyptian Theaters.

Both films are from MGM. "Fearless Fagan" should be classified as. a comedy melodrama, since it contains some serious, even hair-raising scenes. However, fun is the main Item of, the picture. Fagan plays himself, showing the poise of a veteran Thespian.

He is described by hi master at one point as being "so dumb he doesn't even know he's a lion," but he's the star of the movie, make no mistake about it-Youth fut Cast Besides the lion of many moods, the cast includes Janet Leigh as a film actress who makes Fagan's "acquaintance" when she visits the Army camp to entertain; Carleton Carpenter, the lanky private who owns the beast; Keenan wynn, tough top sergeant who inherits responsi bility for Pagans actions from Wilton Graff, who plays the worried coI3nel. When Carpenter, who has been using the lion in a circus act, joins the service he insists on bringing along the beast, unknown to the Army, of course. After Miss Ieigh discovers Fagan in his hideout near camp she spills the beans and the Army takes over, or tries at any rate. The story moves along easuy mrougn a series oi sn- plays the central role, naturally. He is, shall we say, lionized by the press and at one point turns into a peeping Tom when he looks in on the WAC barracks.

The cast is young and zstfuL including 4-year-old Fagan. Car penter, a comparative newcomer, impresses very favorably. Wynn and Miss Leigh are likewise good in their roles.

But it's really Fearless Fagan's day in the sun. Stanley Donen directed from screen play by Charles Lederer, based on story by Sid ney Franklin Jr. and Eldon Griffiths. Also In the are Richard Anderson. Ellen Corby, Barbara Ruick, John Call and others.

Young as Doctor A second comedy on the pro gram, "You for Me," Is light weight but amusing. Peter Law-ford, as a wealthy and amorous manufacturer, and Jane Greer, as a wisecracking nurse assigned to persuade Lawford to continue sponsorship of her hospital, are the main principals. Gig Young, Paula Corday and Otto Hulett complete the cast Young plays a doctor whose re search is financed by the Law- ford contributions and compli cations arise when he and his sponsor compete for the attentions of the winsome Miss Greer, There is considerable spoofing in the picture and one scene is particularly amusing when doc tors, nurses and interns hash over their personal problems to the horror of a waiting surgical case.
