to Salute American Designers WESTWOOD Bullock's Westwood will salute the genius of American designers at a showing, open to the public, at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, in the Lotus Tea Room. Such designing greats as Teal Traina, Geoffrey Beane, Joan Leslie, Wragge, Helga, Georgia Buliock and many more will be previewed. Practicality and a new point of view for every hour of the day and night will be the format of the POPULAR RECIPE show.

Each costume will be a model of American designing talent. There is a new and widened range of fabrics, extraordinary mixtures of colors and accessories that balance both elegance and individuality with economy and Lavish also be part of the "Fashions Extraordinaire," ranging from the most costly to extremely moderatepriced coats. Biscuit Mix Quick Coffeecake Maker BY MARIAN MANNERS Times Food Editor Biscuit mix saves sifting these coffeecakes, proving you don't have to labor to get good results. Biscuit dough coffeecakes 5 require minimum of handling. The dough is stirred vigorously for only seconds, proa lumpy texture. Overbeating this type quick bread tends to create coarse texture, often tunnels when the cake is baked. Coffeecakes with a cakelike consistency require beating. Here are examples of the two types you can bake for brunch or coffee hour treats.

DAD'S COFFEE CAKE 2 cups biscuit mix cup: sugar cup milk 2 tbsp. melted butter or margarine 1 pt. pineapple and orange cottage cheese cup sugar 2 egg yolks, lightly beaten 2 tbsp. flour tsp. salt Cinnamon-sugar Combine biscuit mix with cup sugar.

Stir in milk and butter to make a stiff dough. Turn into a greased 9-in. layer cake pan and spread evenly over bottom and about half way up sides. Combine cottage cheese, sugar, egg yolks, flour and salt and mix well. Turn into dough-lined pan.

Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Bake at 375 deg. 25 min. or until edges of crust are nicely browned. Serve warm, cut into wedges.

Makes 6 to 8 servings. COFFEE CRUMB CAKE cup brown sugar, packed 2 tbsp. biscuit mix 4 tsp. instant coffee 1 tsp. cinnamon 2 tbsp.

Cut in butter with pastry blender or two knives. Stir in walnuts and set aside for topping. Combine 1 cups biscuit mix, granulated sugar, shortening, egg, remaining 2 tsp. coffee, and cup milk. Beat 1 min.

or until batter is smooth. Stir in cup milk and vanilla and beat 30 second longer. Pour into a greased and floured 8-in. square pan. Sprinkle topping evenly on batter and bake at 350 deg.

35 to 40 min. Serve warm. Makes 9 servings. CHOCOLATE SWIRL COFFEECAKE cup flaked coconut 4 cup chopped walnuts cup sugar tbsp. butter or margarine, melted 2 cups biscuit mix cup sugar 2 tbsp.

soft shortening cup milk 1 egg cup semisweet chocolate pieces, melted Mix coconut, nuts, sugar and melted butter. Set aside. Combine biscuit mix, sugar, soft shortening, milk and egg. Beat vigorously with a spoon for half a minute. Pour batter into a greased 8-in.

square pan. Spoon melted chocolate over top and run a knife back and forth through batter to give marbled effect. Sprinkle coconut mixture evenly over top. Bake at 400 deg. 25 to 30 min.

Cut in squares and serve warm. Makes 9 servings. NEAT TRICK Coffeecake made with pineapple and orange flavored cottage cheese and biscuit mix is baked in round pan to serve in wedges at lunch. Women panelists are Mrs. Marsha Ford, UCLA graduate and parole officer with the California Youth Authority, and Mrs. Audrey Kaslow of the Los Angeles County Probation Department, a former VISTA worker. Juvenile law enforcement is a fine career field for mature women interested in working with young people, according to Mrs.

When physical examinations can be passed, Lane has hired women up to 72 years of age for crossing guard work.
