PREP TRACKMAN, HIT IN HEAD BY JAVELIN, TO LIVE STERLING, April 1 (JP) A Dodge City High School athlete was struck in the head with a javelin and seriously injured today at the Sterling Relays. A physician said the javelin penetrated three inches into the skull of Lynn Smith, 19-year-old distance runner. He was taken to a hospital where his condition was described as not critical. The javelin struck Smith just above the left eye and ranged downward, missing the brain, the physician explained.

He said the eye was damaged but he did not believe the youth would lose his sight. Smith was conscious, hospital attendants said. 4 J' 1 1 I. In a letter to Horace Stone-ham, president of the Giants, Arizona Baseball Coach Frank Sancet said: "We resent the methods of Mr. Shader, your scout in this area. Not long ago, he came to Tucson and contacted several of our players, all, of whom are members of our varsity baseball team, trying to persuade them to leave school. ''We appreciate having professional baseball interest in our players, particularly when scouts make their presence known.

"But when they gumshoe in and out of town and use every method to hide their identity with the exception of false whiskers, we doubt they are using the proper procedure."
