It is a set of particular interest here although Victor has made a better one with Eugene Goossens- and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. The interpretation is deliberate and poised and definitely Russian. Although an early work it is characteristic and has more of the native folk music than you will find in later works. Among the popular Vecordings are Columbia's "Showboat" album with the chorus and orches CHINA A MODEL FOR EUROPE. Folk music, English and Scandinavian, has particularly interested him and through this interest he has familiarized the masses with the music that has emanated from the people. The great Scandinavian composer, Grieg, said of Grainger, favorite interpreter of his own compositions, that he regretted that Grainger gave so much of his time and thought to folk music, fearing it would limit his career as a virtuoso.
