Part MAY 2, 1959 Los Angeles Times Treat Hurts Leg as Oxy Triumphs Occidental ran off with 14th straight SCIAC track crown last night before 3500 spectators at Patterson Field but the win proved to be costly when star hurdler Clarence Treat pulled a leg' muscle in the broad jump; and will be out indefinitely. Treat won the high hurdles, breaking the conference record with a 14.4 but then suffered a leg injury on his last broad jump. Jack Lawrence, the Tigers' other hurdler, broke a 22-year old record when he skimmed over the 220 lows in 23.4. Doug Smith, another Oxy ace, was the only double winner of the meet with first places in both sprints in 9.8 and 21.6. Three other meet records fell when Tiger Jim Cerveny won the 880 in 1:52 flat, two miler Russ Bennett took his specialty in 9:10.7 and Redlands, Dick Verdon upset all the dope sheets by uncorking a 55ft.
