After Passing Many Worthless Chocks Dry Goods Salesman Is Cap lured in a local Store, After having passed a dozen or more worthless checks during the past two weeks, J.

M. Archer, formerly a dry goods salesman of Chi cago, was eauirht late yesterday auer noon in Coulter's store when he at- temnteil to tret more money on spun ous paper. When he was detected he protested innocence and then gave private detectives a hnra struggle ue fore thev overpowered him. Archer admitted at the Central Po lice Station that he has been issuing fictitious checks ever since he came to the Pacini Coast. He signed the name of H.

Walton Son to the checks, each of which was drawp for $22.60. Several days ago Archer had no trouble in victimizing three department stores. In each instance he bought something worth probably $5 and presents a check. Receiving the change, he would instruct tne cierK to deliver the goods to a fictitious ad dress at the harbor. All of the checks proved worth less.

When the mun entered Coulter's he bought a baby carriage and pre sented a check. The cashier- remenv bered a circular of warning against Archer and before giving him the change called a detective agency. Archer said he has a wife and two children in Chicago. CONGRATULATE US.
