HELICOPTER SHIELDS CITRUS IN 'ASTOUNDING' EXPERIMENT SANTA PAULA, Dec 24 Described as the first experiment of the kind in Ventura County, a helicopter has been used to raise the temperature in a, citrus orchard ; The plane, belonging to a local concern headed by Fred Blymyer, flew over a ISO-acre ranch owned" by. Richard E. Danielson Jr., near Camarillo last night with results that ..- were described as "astounding." According to Blymyer, the mercury rose from 4 to 8 degrees in less than five minutes after the plane whirred along 60 feet off the ground over the citrus groves. The mercury stood at 27 degrees when the plane began its flight, at approximately 12:30 a.m. today. Action was halted then until one hour later, when the plane began flying and continued to do so for three and one-half hours. Although the method has proven successful in the Imperial Valley on fiat crops, it is believed it was the first time is has been used in this county on citrus.
